Peter grew up as the son of missionaries in Africa. He felt a call to full time overseas missionary work as a child, but it was not until Urbana `87 when God began leading him to ministry in Albania. He obtained a computer science degree from Taylor University and a Masters of Divinity from Columbia International University.
As a teenager Melodye went to Norway with Teen Missions. During this time she realized that God's plan for her life may include cross cultural ministry. She attended Liberty University, obtaining her bachelor of science in nursing in 1992.
They were married in 1994. In May of 1999 they had their first child, Peter Christopher Bowers, and in October of 2000 they had their second, Joshua Caleb Bowers. In October of 2003 they expect their third child.
While at Urbana '87 Peter attended an afternoon session on praying for "Creative Access Countries." They gave each person a card featuring a country to encourage them to pray. Peter received a card for the country of Albania, a country he had never before heard of. The key fact about Albania on that card was that there were no (zero) known believers in the country of Albania at that time. This fact was used by God to touch Peter's heart and to start him on a road of praying for Albania and considering future service there for nearly 10 years.
In 1996 Peter & Melodye went to Albania for the summer to participate with a Christar church planting team. This trip clearly confirmed their desire to minister full-time in Albania. In 1997 they formally joined Christar (then International Missions) and in 1998 they returned as full time workers with the Center for Christian Leadership.
